A large group of 36 senior pupils attended the Scottish Schools’ Orienteering Festival at Scone Palace on Wednesday 1st June. Pupils in P5-7 have developed their orienteering skills throughout the year, both during school time and at running club sessions, so were well prepared for the event.

Our P5-6 Girls’ team with their trophy!

Our pupils had a great time in the sunshine and we are also delighted to report that our team were overall winners in the P5/6 girls’ category! To be national champions is a fantastic achievement and we are very proud of the girls: Julianny, Elysia, Tabitha, Eryn and Anna. They even received a trophy to show off back at school!

Congratulations also to the following participants who showed great achievements:

Our P7 team William, Angus and Houston who came 2nd overall in the P7 Boys’ competition

Our group who came third in the P5/6 Boys’ category: Jamie, David, Martin, Vicente, Jacob, Luka, Ianthe, Rebecca

Torrin, Rahaf and Isla came 2nd overall in the P7 Girls’ category.

Well done to Angus in P7 who came third in the P7 boys’ individual competition.

Overall we enjoyed a fantastic day in a beautiful and sunny setting. Congratulations to all our participants who were very highly praised for their behaviour and attitude throughout the day by a number of onlookers including competition organisers and staff and parents from other schools.

Thanks to Mr MacLean and Ms Craig for their work in preparing pupils for the competition and taking them there, and to Mr Grieger for coming along as an extra helper on the day. We would also like to say a huge thanks to our parent helper Elspeth Bleakley, who not only helped a great deal in preparing pupils for this event, but also came and provided assistance to our participants on the day itself. We are very grateful to Elspeth for giving up her time and expertise to help provide this exciting opportunity to our young people.

We look forward to embedding orienteering within our curriculum for 2022-23 and participating in next year’s competition!

Here are some pictures from the event. Please note that we do not have many pictures of the competition in progress, as only neutral competition officials are permitted on the course during the activity.
