Well, what a super few weeks in P1!

I’m so proud of the literacy and numeracy development in class! It is so lovely to see children writing letters, notes and stories through their play without any prompting!  My poor stapler is running low due to how many story books it has had to make this week!   We have been doing a lot of shared story telling in class this week, through Julia Donaldson’s Tiddler, and writing  our own Halloween story.  We also had a professional story teller come to see all of the infant classes in the library and she brought her puppets and showed us actions to bring the story to life.

Miss Tania gave us a very funny challenge at Halloween!  She gave us a bag of orange items and fabric and challenged us to make her into a pumpkin!  There was a lot of laughing and I personally think she looks fantastic!

We have learned about the Hindu festival of light, Diwali, and made our own Rangoli patterns usin chalk in the playground.  I think it is fabulous to celebrate other people’s beliefs and we all enjoyed hearing the story of Rama and Sita.

Some children have decided to take on music during play.   They chose to make their own drums and we sat together listening to Wagner, Beethoven and The Ghostbusters theme tune, while drumming in time with the music!  My own ukelele is a popular addition to the band and next week we may add a glockenspiel (although perhaps not when I’m teaching literacy or numeracy!)

Our sounds this week will be ‘h’ and ‘e’.  So now we can word build with all of the sounds,  ” s a t p i n m r e h”.

We are practising counting forwards and backwards within 10 and 20 and adding 2  collections together, for example, ‘I have 2 in this hand and 3 in this hand – how many altogether?

I’m so proud of my little learners!  Well done to my P1 superstars!
