Good Morning P7b, well here we are at the end of our second week of home learning.😊
This morning I want to wish Isla a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GufCAyiMUxI
Hope you have a lovely time with your family.
This will be my last post for now as we head into our Easter break. Thank you all for taking part in the literacy tasks I have set and for sending me examples of your work.
Now’s your opportunity to switch off, relax and have fun. It is so important for our health and wellbeing to take time to do the things that make us happy. With this is mind I am planning to get creative. I will be drawing, colouring in and knitting amongst other things. I have also set myself a challenge to learn to play the ukulele!

Today’s literacy learning:
- Continue writing your story
- Read for at least thirty minutes – Do complete a review of any books you have finished and email them to me.
- Continue to practice common word spelling.
Remember I am happy to look over your work and give feedback so if you can submit work to me by sending an email to: admin@prestonstreet.edin.sch.uk
If you are using a computer then using word makes it easier for me to open, annotate and give feed back. If writing it then a clear photo of the text is needed. Thank you😊
Remember these are suggestions just do as much as you are able and enjoy spending time with your family and if safe go outside.
Thank you to everyone who voted over the holidays I will be reading:
The Boy at the Back of the Class by Onjali Q. Rauf then Frostheart by Jamie Litter
Have a lovely relaxing time and a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Iris when it comes, have a great day😊😊
Mrs Smyth😊
Book Reviews
Starfell – Willow Moss and the Lost Day by Dominique Valente
If you are looking for a book to read over the holidays I would recommend this one. It is well written with plenty of twists to keep you guessing. I loved the main character because of her determination. It is fantasy genre with plenty of magical twists and turns. What I liked most was the variety of characters that you meet throughout, especially the choice of names! Definitely one to read I give it 5 ***** stars😊
Book Review By Amana
The book I am going to review is The Glass Children which is written by Kristina Ohlsson. This book is based on the mystery of a house. The story is about a girl called Billie who moved into a new house in Ahus during summer with her mother after her father’s death. Because of her father’s death, Billie was really upset and was not ready for this change and on top of that she experienced strange things which made her suspicious that something was wrong in her new house. She was also scared to live in that house but she was determined to find what was wrong with the house. She thought she would be lonely because she hardly knew anyone in the city. She loved cycling and exploring places. She used to cycle to the beach often and eventually made a friend called Aladdin. They both explored the house, found a lot of information and finally unravelled the mystery behind her house.

Good Morning 7s!
Last day before Spring Break! I know it was supposed to be Mr Parkin today, but he and I had to switch because of other teaching commitments. Mr Parkin did say to wish you all a happy break and that we will see you in two weeks.
Where I’m from, I lived very close to Washington DC. I would often take a train there about now because early spring is when the cherry blossoms bloom and DC is beautiful! Here are a couple of my pictures from my visits:
Here are some fun things you can do over break
· Read your favourite book outside
· In a group, share your favourite songs with each other
o Here’s one of my favourite songs to run to: (insert good running song audio)
· Learn something you’ve always wanted to learn (like origami)
· Try something new (like baking or running or a new art technique)
· Have a game night with your friends (virtually of course) or family
· Find cloud animals
· Create a dictionary of Scottish words and phrases for Miss Craig to study
· Most important – Enjoy yourself!
As for maths:
· If you were working on the poster you can keep going with that. I’m happy to see them whenever you finish. Here is the poster challenge from Monday:
o If you are looking for a longer project – one that might take all week, you can try this one. Pythagoras wasn’t the only “really old dude” that was exceptional at maths. If your curious, find another mathematician and learn about their contributions to mathematics. There are “old dudettes” like Hypatia. And, there are modern mathematicians as well. The movie Hidden Figures is about how female mathematicians changed NASA. Create a poster explaining what you found. If you don’t mind your poster going up on the blog, you can email it to us admin@prestonstreet.edin.sch.uk
· If you are not working on a poster, you can play a maths game today. Here are a couple of fun sites and games and even some maths magic tricks!
o Online Games – https://www.mathsisfun.com/
o Sudoku – http://www.websudoku.com/
o Math tricks – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qryfsaxcJ4g
o NRich & Math Circles games (including the factors and multiples game and NIM) – https://nrich.maths.org/9413
o Math Magic Tricks with Cards
§ https://nrich.maths.org/2028
§ https://youtu.be/TH4NqXLBD2w Can you figure it out how to do it without seeing the answer?
§ If not, here’s how to do it – https://youtu.be/BBT-XbNVB28
Have a wonderful break! I will look forward to hearing from you when we get back.
Happy Birthday, Isla! We hope you are getting plenty of kitten time today

From Mr Anderson
Good morning P7B. Before we start Friday’s lessons, Cristina would like to say a big hello and share her marvellous rainbow. Both Cristina & her family are well in Spain and in the next few weeks she is going to set you a personal challenge.
How can it be we are at the Easter Holidays already? Crazy! So, I thought we could have a little True or False Easter Quiz to commemorate this.
- 500 million creme eggs are produced every year?
- If all the creme eggs produced each year were stacked up on top of one another, the pile would be five times taller than Mount Everest?
- Easter in Ethiopia is called Fassika?
- The largest chocolate Easter egg weighed a whopping 6000kg, the same weight as an elephant?
- The most expensive hot cross bun cost £155 in April, 2000?
STEM
How did you get on with STEM Friday last week? Did you enjoy it? From our feedback it has went down really well but we would love to see photos of you participating in your challenges. I realise not every challenge can be done just now due to ongoing circumstances so you and your family are under no obligation to partake in them. Likewise, there is no rush in completing them all so limit yourself to one challenge each Friday/weekend.
I will reveal the answers to our Easter Quiz later today at 5pm in the P7A blog comments. Good luck and Happy Easter folks. Stay safe.
Mr. Anderson
