P1b have been enjoying opportunities for some risky play over the last couple of weeks.  In P.E we took out the wall bars and some other equipment, allowing children to challenge themselves physically and try something new.  They all played safely and responsibly and felt so proud when they succeeded , even if they had been a little bit nervous at first.

Some of you may know that Ms Morrison and Ms Ritty are currently working on their Forest schools qualifications and so we decided to put our new knot and rope skills to good use at Holyrood park!  We made a long rope walk which helped children work on their strength, balance and problem solving skills.  The  following week we set up an even trickier ropes course and made a spider’s web obstacle course.  Max found some very interesting and creative ways of getting through without touching the ropes!

Inside the classroom, life has been a little bit less risky but just as much fun!  It’s been fantastic to see how the children’s play has become more collaborative and involves more teamwork and communication.  Jake decided to use the cubes to build the biggest number block and before long he had a team of helpers.  I think we managed to use every cube in the class and it was bigger than the classroom!  At the same time, Nils was being very creative with his cubes an build a rod that looked like a glue stick.  He very kindly shared his “glue sticks” with Jake so that he could achieve his ‘biggest number block’ challenge!

I can’t believe there is just one last week to go.  Let’s make it a great one!
