Hello everyone and welcome back to Summer term in P3! I hope everyone had a lovely Easter break and Eid Mubarak to our families who recently celebrated Eid.

It’s been another busy start to the term in P3. This term our topic is Food and farming. Last week we learned about the different types of farms we have in Scotland and the types of food produced on these farms. The children have each created a farmer character and have decided what type of farmer they will be (eg dairy, arable etc). We will be finding out what a typical day for our farmer characters looks like very soon! In health and well being this term we are looking again at how we manage our emotions. We are going to be discussing our emotions and the different zones of regulation they fall into (red, green, blue and yellow) and what we need to do when we realise we are in these zones.

Eid Mubarak

Eid Mubarak to all our families who recently celebrated Eid. We had a number of children in class who were fasting or part fasting for the first time and they should be very proud of their efforts. All of the children enjoyed making Eid cards for their friends on the run up to Eid.

Maths

Over the last 2 weeks the children have been learning about Fractions through lots of practical hands on activities. So far we can find a fraction of a shape, place a fraction on a number line and find a fraction of an amount. Next week we will be moving onto measuring length.

Literacy

This term we will be continuing our phonics and spelling programs as normal. In writing we will be focusing on story writing and this week we all planned a new story using story mountain. We have also been learning about Synonyms and how we can use them to create more interesting sentences.

PE

This term we will be learning hockey and tennis skills. Hockey will take place in school every Monday and Tennis will take place at the Meadows tennis courts every Tuesday morning. Please dress children appropriately and send a water bottle with them each day.

Other bits and bobs

Our Library day is still Tuesday so please remind children to have their library book in school on Tuesdays.

Thank you to our parent helpers who are accompanying us to tennis this term! We appreciate you giving up your time to help with this.

That’s all for now. See you soon.
