Literacy

We have been learning about capital letters, the names of the capital letters, what they look like, why and when they are used and their matching lowercase sound. We have been playing different games to reinforce this learning. We have been thinking about what we are looking forward to about primary 2 and wrote about this during our writing lesson.

Maths

We have been learning about shape. We have been learning the names and properties of 2D shapes. We have also been learning the names and properties of 3D shapes. We have enjoyed going on a shape hunt for 2D shapes around the school and exploring the 2D and 3D shapes during our play. We will continue to learn about shape next week.

 

HWB
For our last P.E. session we practised for Sports’ Day. We enjoyed trying each of the activities and being in our bibs to represent our teams. We had great fun and managed all of the activities well!

Music

We have enjoyed some music sessions with Sarah from YMI (Youth Music Initiative), during these sessions we have been learning different songs and actions, we have also been learning about the beat!

Farming Topic

This week we were learning about arable farming and where did fruits and vegetables grow.

Gorgie Farm Trip

Last week we enjoyed a trip to Gorgie Farm. We explored the farm and looked at the different animals. We also enjoyed feeding the alpacas, sheep and goats. We came back to school for lunch, we enjoyed eating our lunch in the classroom. We played in the classroom after lunch.

Baking Cupcakes

We made cupcakes for Miss Fleming’s last day, just over 2 weeks ago. We enjoyed working together to help follow the recipe and to make the cupcakes.

Play

We have enjoyed lots of imaginative play and enjoyed getting creative with some cardboard and paper wrapping from a delivery box, some of us turned the packaging into big, thick winter coats, others had cloaks or capes! We made shields and swords out of the cardboard. We enjoyed exploring the 3D shapes, seeing if we could build towers with them and how high we could make the towers. We enjoyed building with the magnetic 2D shapes and building jigsaws.
