What a fabulous start to P1!  As you can see, we have been super busy inside and outside of the classroom!

The children have made good use of all the areas of the play based classroom.  During large block play, some children noticed that they had built a wall and so they started to sing ‘Humpty dumpty’.  This progressed to a literacy lesson on rhyme and syllables and even more adventurous construction work too!  Barnaby the bear has been renamed ‘Mr Snuggles’ and the children have enjoyed building him houses and putting him to bed in the library corner.  He even had a birthday cake, because, like Miss Tania, our fabulous Early Years Practitioner, it was his birthday this week!

I have been delighted to see the creativity and artistic talent in the class, with many children experimenting with the paints, pastels, crayons and pens and a lot of exciting paper construction and collage too.  There has been a lot of pattern creating using different play resources such as our peg boards too!

The water tray is a firm favourite and I have loved to see how the children experiment with making the water flow in different ways by filling different items. (We have also enjoyed getting quite wet, so I think the aprons will be used a little more often next time!) The children have been really responsible with clearing up any spilled water using our mop and bucket too!

We have had great fun in the mud kitchen and the outdoor area and I look forward to seeing how the P1’s imaginations direct our planning and play in the future.

Of course, it hasn’t all been child led play.  We have been busy practising rhyme, syllables and listening skills in literacy and learning to correctly form the numbers 1 – 5. Some children are still reversing their numbers when they write them so this will be an ongoing skill for us to practise as the term progresses.

Everyone should be really proud of themselves!  We have mastered many new routines, learned new skills and had so many new experiences in just a few weeks and I’m delighted to call P1 my class!  Well done, everyone!
