This week is the final Coorie-in for this Term. Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to listen to the stories and participated in the activities. I have loved reading your comments and looking at your wonderful art work.

The Coorie-in Family Reading initiative was introduced at Preston Street to celebrate a love of reading in the Early Years. Parents and carers met each Friday to listen to a story read by myself or my colleague, Mrs Nimbley. This was then followed by a craft activity. We also sang songs and had lots of fun. It would be our intention to start this again once it is safe to do so.

Today’s story is called The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn which is about a little Racoon who is scared about his first day of school. His Mum finds an unforgettable way by sharing a family secret called ‘ The Kissing Hand’ in the hope it gives Chester the reassurance to know that any time he feels scared her love will always be there.

Activity 1

Learn the song- I Love You

Activity 2

Play the game ‘Musical Hearts’

Draw some hearts.

On each heart write an activity. Here are some ideas:

  • Hula dance.
  • Do 5 jumping jacks.
  • Spin on one foot five times then spin on the other.
  • Do 5 pushups.
  • Hop on one foot 10 times.
  • Hug the person beside you.
  • Plank for 10 seconds.
  • Jump as high as you can 8 times.

Turn the hearts over so you cannot see the activities and place them in a large circle.

Put on some music.

Dance around the circle, stepping on a heart each time.

When the music stops, jump on a heart, turn over the card and complete the activity.

I hope you all have a wonderful summer holiday and get the chance to ‘coorie-in’ together and read lots of captivating books.

Take care, stay safe and Coorie-in.
