Around 40 Preston Street pupils participated in the Edinburgh Marathon Festival junior races in Holyrood Park on Saturday. All classes from P1 up to P7 were represented, including a large number of our running club members. We also had some staff representation in the form of Mr MacLean who participated in the 10k race, and Mr Hoyle who tackled the full marathon on the Sunday!

As well as running, our children and their families enjoyed a sociable picnic in the park while the various races took place. The ‘marathon picnic’ was an annual pre-COVID fixture and we were delighted to welcome its return.. It was great to have so many people come together and turned the event into a fantastic social occasion which summed up the community spirit which exists at Preston Street.

Everyone deserves huge credit for their participation. Special congratulations are due to two pupils who made the top three of their 1.5k races – a phenomenal achievement. Well done to Josh in P4 and Callum in P3/4 who came first and third respectively. Some of our pupils were raising money either for our school sports clubs, or for various other charities and causes, while others were running simply for the enjoyment of participating in the festival. No matter your reason for running, or the position in which you finished, we are proud of all of you for being a part of such an exciting event.

We tried to take pictures of all Preston Street participants during the various races – however it is not always easy to spot and photograph individuals within a crowd, so apologies if your child does not feature. We could not take a ‘group photograph’ of all the runners as people came and went at various times over the afternoon – however, we will arrange for a photograph to be taken in school of all our runners wearing their finishers’ t-shirts and medals.

Well done to everyone who participated, and we look forward to May 2023!
