Our P7 pupils enjoyed a fantastic EPIC Day at Bonaly Outdoor Centre last week. EPIC Days have been provided this year by the City of Edinburgh Council for all P7 pupils across the city, to make up for the traditional ‘school camp’ which they have missed out on this year due to COVID.
The aim of EPIC Days is to provide a high quality outdoor education experience which is as close as possible to a traditional P7 residential experience, albeit only as a single-day excursion rather than a residential one. Staff from the Council’s usual outdoor centres at Lagganlia and Benmore have been redeployed to Edinburgh to help with delivery.
This has been an ambitious project which has been well received by schools across the city and we are delighted that our pupils were able to participate.
The day started at 9am with a bus trip to Bonaly outdoor centre. Pupils then enjoyed morning activities including bushcraft, climbing wall, ropes course and a ‘nightline’ activity. After lunch, the children explored the Pentland Hills before coming back down to the centre for evening activities and a campfire, before returning back to school at 9:15pm following a tiring but rewarding 12 hour day.
A selection of photographs from the day can be seen below.
Thanks to all the Outdoor Education instructors and staff for their help in providing our EPIC day, and thanks to Mr Hoyle, Mr MacLean, Ms Craig, Mr Anderson and Mrs Davidson for coming along for the day. Finally, thanks to all our P7 pupils for bringing such positive energy and enthusiasm to the experience. While we know many of you were disappointed to miss out on school camp, we are sure you returned from the EPIC day with many happy memories.
