Hello again from the P6 classroom! We have had a very productive two weeks. Below are some of our highlights.

But first…

A post that was forgotten last time! We were very lucky to be given the opportunity to take part in some African dancing with Addie who is from Ghana. The children and I had a great time out in the sunshine enjoying the music and taking part in the routine.

Suitcases! The children have been working on creating their own worlds within a suitcase! The idea came from the children whilst we have been reading ‘The Strangeworlds Travel Agency by L.D. Lapinsky.’ A fantastic read on your own or out loud book. It has completely captured the children’s imagination and story time has become one of our favourites parts of the day. Last week we began constructing our worlds inside out suitcases using collage materials, pens, pencils and other art materials. The children worked well, using problem solving and creative skills to bring their world to life. Below are a few photos of the progress made so far. Mrs Nimbley also popped in to see what the children had created. She was very impressed by the high level of imagination and creativity shown by the children.

P.E. – In P.E. the children have been developing their pace, stamina and endurance skills through creating a circuit course for themselves. The class split into different groups and each worked on a different skill that would help build up pace, stamina and endurance.

The teams included a warm up team, a cool down team and then five circuit activities, these included; mat and bench push-ups, basketball shooting, relay running, jumping from a gym horse and landing and finally a fitness workout that included; star jumps, squats, lunges and stretches. The children evaluated each station as they tried it out, making suggestions of how the activity could be changed or improved. Once back in class the children wrote down two skills/activities they thought they had worked well at and one thing they wanted to improve on. These will be used to help develop the circuit activities and provide  next steps.

Scottish Maths Week – This week in maths we have been celebrating Scottish Maths Week. We have take part in the sumdog competition and been trying out new games and skills that will further help us to develop our mathematical skills.

And Finally! – Just a few snaps of some of the children just enjoying the classroom space and being able to read just for the enjoyment that it gives them.
