What an exciting and busy half term it has been in P5/6. We said goodbye to Miss Forsyth, wishing her well on her new adventures in Australia. We also welcomed Miss Bain to the school and have had some very enjoyable Wednesdays with her.

In literacy, we have focussed on up-levelling our writing by including lots of description, specifically regarding the setting, as well as introducing inverted commas (speech marks) into our stories. We have continued with our school reading book pass, engaging in some fun activities around our chosen books.

In maths, we have started a focus on multiplication and division, using physical materials and area models to tackle trickier multiplication sums. We have also started a data handling unit linked to our basketball league. We have enjoyed creating various league tables and bar graphs each week to analyse our match statistics.
With February being LGBT+ history month, we have had some brilliant class discussions and conversations around Stereotypes, Equality and Being Fair in health and wellbeing.
This term in P.E. we have spent a lot of time improving our basketball skills and teamwork through our Wednesday skills sessions and Thursday league matches. The girls have thoroughly enjoyed attending the Crags to take part in a basketball skills session with the rest of the P6 girls at PS as well as the P6 girls at RMPS whilst the boys have enjoyed practicing their own skills at school with the boys from the P6 class. These skills have been put into practice during our weekly Thursday basketball league which has been a lot of fun and really promoted our teamwork within the class. We really enjoyed collaborating and creating a name and logo for our teams.

On Monday, the P5s started their swimming block with the P4s from the P3/4 class, which was great fun. Meanwhile, the P6s stayed back with Miss Arnott and created some collaborative story boards with the P3s from the P3/4 class. We had a lot of fun working in pairs with the P3s to create our own version of the Gingerbread Man story whilst getting the chance to get to know some of our PS peers.

We have started a topic on the Egyptians this term which we are loving. So far, we have learned about what Ancient Egyptian life was like, the River Nile, some Egyptian Pharaohs and even had lots of fun crafting and creating our own Canopic Jars.

Have a lovely half term holiday:)
