Literacy

We have been learning the sounds ‘oi’ ‘oy’ and ‘ou’ and the tricky words ‘were’ ‘there’ ‘into’. We have been reading and writing words with these sounds in them. We have been hunting for our common words in book pages.

This week we have been reinforcing the taught block 2 ‘special friend’ sounds and the common words. We will continue to teach the final block 2 sounds and common words after the Easter break.

This week we have been doing some Easter themed listening activities. We had to listen carefully to the instructions and then follow these by drawing the item instructed or colouring the object instructed. We were able to do very good listening and had success with these activities.

Maths

We have concluded our money topic. We have been learning about the values of the different coins, thinking about the shape, size and colour of the coins to help us identify them and not just identifying them by the number on them. We have been counting collections of coins and making amounts too. Working with money has been good for developing our counting in 10s.

Numeracy

This week we have been using the Dienes materials to learn a little bit about place value and how numbers are made. We have been counting the Dienes materials to find out which number has been made, or using the Dienes materials to make numbers, we have been counting in 10s during these tasks. We have also been reinforcing our knowledge of number bonds.

Spring

We have started a mini topic about Spring. We have been learning when Spring is and what usually happens during the Spring time. Last week we were learning about the life cycles of frogs & butterflies. We will continue this learning after the holiday.

Easter

This week, we have been learning about the Christian celebration of Easter, what this is and why it is celebrated. We have enjoyed some Easter themed activities, including making Easter crispy cakes, these were good fun to make and even better to eat! We have also used cotton buds to decorate eggs, we used the cotton buds and paint to make a pattern or picture on our egg. We have also created an Easter chick or bunny picture, using paint and our hand print.

Ramadan

We have been learning what Ramadan is and that Muslims are celebrating Ramadan this month.

Holyrood Park

We have enjoyed visits to Holyrood Park, playing with our friends and exploring the woods. We are still enjoying climbing to the top of the hill to see the view of Arthur’s seat and the Crags. Walking along the ropes and climbing up onto the tree trunk and jumping off again are still popular!

Mud Kitchen

We have been out in the mud kitchen, we have been drawing, playing with the k’nex, making our own assault course and making food in the kitchen. We have enjoyed having some of the P7s join us in the mud kitchen.

Library

A reminder that we visit the school library each Monday.

P.E.

We have been developing our skipping skills and dribbling a ball with our feet. We have been developing these skills on our own, and with a partner, sharing and taking turns.

Play

We have enjoyed lots of play opportunities. We have been pretending to be Superheroes! We have also been playing in the shop, selling and buying things. We have been playing imaginatively together and making musical instruments!
