Literacy

We have been reinforcing the block 2 sounds and tricky words. We have been playing different tricky word games which involve us reading the words and thinking about which letters and sounds are in them.

We have also been playing different games to reinforce the block 2 vowel digraph sounds.

We have started our block 2 assessments, we will continue these next week.

Maths

We have been learning about time. We have been learning the days of the week and months of the year and the order in which these come. We have also been learning about the 4 seasons. We have started to learn how to tell the time on analogue clocks. We have been reading and making o’clock times. We will be learning how to tell the time on digital clocks too, introducing briefly 24-hour times without teaching this explicitly.

We designed our own clocks, using our imagination and creativity to do so. We made clock animals – cats, dinosaurs, rabbits and dogs. Some of us made clock aliens!

P.E.

We enjoyed having the wall bars out during last week’s P.E. session. We climbed or crawled up the bench, climbed the wall bars, went along the top of the ladder or did monkey bars underneath. We also enjoyed climbing or walking up the bench and onto the box to jump down onto the mat below, we also practised our pencil rolls and jumped off the springboard.

Dance

We had our first dance session with Miss Izzard last Tuesday. We had a good time and enjoyed doing dance with Miss Izzard. We also played in the P2 classroom afterwards.

Spanish

We have been learning the numbers to 10 in Spanish and have enjoyed counting forwards and playing games to reinforce the numbers. This week we were learning the numbers 11-20. We are remembering the Spanish vocabulary well. We enjoyed playing a memory game on the computer to reinforce the numbers 0 to 10 in Spanish.

 

Topic

We have been continuing our Farm topic. Last week we made bread! We had to measure the ingredients, mix them together to make a dough and then knead the dough. After this we left the bread to rise overnight and then we let it prove the next day before then putting it in the oven to bake. We enjoyed tasting bread with butter, jam or both, some of us just had the bread on its own. We have also been learning about the milk making process. We made little farm animals from our handprints, we used our creativity to make the different parts of the animal to transform our handprint!

Music

We had our first YMI (Youth Music Initiative) music session this week. We enjoyed learning 3 songs and about the beat during our session. It was fun to learn the words and to do some actions too.

Play

We have enjoyed playing with the K’nex to build different things, we were racing our creations against one another and building different structures with the blocks in the block area. We have also been playing with the babies and prams. As well as, being creative with different resources from the art trolley. We had some different resources including different types of materials including cloth, a silky material, wooden pegs, wooden lolly sticks, buttons and tissue paper. We were very creative in what we were able to make with these resources!
