Literacy
We have been continuing with our learning of spelling patterns/rules and common words. This week some of us have been completing literacy assessments reading and writing words with our spelling pattern/rule and common words. We have been working on our reading comprehension skills and have enjoyed doing some reading comprehension cards, there is text on one side to read and then questions about the text on the back of the card to be answered. Each card is about a different subject/theme and there is a mixture of fiction and non-fiction texts and the cards meet different reading levels allowing for differentiation.
Numeracy
We have been continuing with learning about numbers. We have been thinking about multiplication and division through equal groups, equal sharing and arrays. We have also been adding and subtracting both tens and ones. We have been learning about time with Miss Forsyth.
Problem Solving
We have been learning about different problem-solving strategies and have completed different problem-solving tasks using the ‘working backwards’ strategy, we have completed these problems working with a peer. We will continue to develop our problem-solving skills.
PE
We have been developing our basketball skills, last week we were applying the skills from the first 3 weeks to try and defend and attack for possession of the basketball. We worked in pairs, small groups and whole class to practice these skills. We enjoyed trying to get the basketball from someone else. We were able to dribble the ball well and to pass the ball successfully at times to avoid the ball ending up with the opposition. We will continue our basketball block into the new year.
Holyrood Park
We enjoyed a visit to Holyrood Park last week. We didn’t go this week due to the weather.
HWB
We have been learning about people who help and look after us through the RSHP programme. We have been learning about people who help and look after us at home, in school and in the wider community, finding out about different roles. We have also been learning about friends and friendships. How to make friends, how to sustain friendships and how to make up if friends fall out, as well as the importance of having friends, being kind and empathetic.
