Literacy
We have been learning about capital letters. We have been learning the names of capital letters, what they look like and how to write them. We have also been learning about what they look like in lower case and the sound they make in words.
We have been reading our reading books and discussing the characters and events. We have been reinforcing the block 2 sounds through our teacher led activities.
We have been doing some dictation work, listening carefully to the word or sentence the adult says and then using our phonics and tricky words knowledge to write the word or sentence.

Numeracy
Last week we were continuing with our SEAL (Stages of Arithmetic Learning) learning in our groups.
This week we have been learning about time. We have been learning about the different parts of the day: morning, afternoon, evening and night, we have also been learning the days of the week and about the passage of time, thinking about today, yesterday and tomorrow. Next week we will be learning the months of the year and the 4 seasons. We will then be learning how to make and read o’clock times on both digital and analogue clocks.

P.E.
Last week we were dribbling a ball with our hands! We had to control the ball and to be careful when travelling by making sure we were watching where we were going!
This week we have been developing different skills! We have been balancing on benches, jumping from different heights and climbing! Today, we have had great fun climbing on the wall bars and swinging on the ropes!

Solar Eclipse
Yesterday, we were very lucky and managed to see the partial solar eclipse from the playground. We wore special glasses to allow us to look up at the sun and see the solar eclipse. This was very exciting!

Holyrood Park
We have enjoyed a trip to Holyrood Park this week. We had tarps and ropes. We worked together in small groups to make a shelter or to tie the ropes to the trees. We had to use our communication skills to tell others what we were doing and how they could help. We enjoyed the challenge of attaching the ropes to the trees and even made a swing! We drew some pictures in our shelters or played in the forest. At the end we enjoyed a story in one of our shelters before returning to school.

Outdoor Area
We have enjoyed visiting the outdoor are. We have been busy in the mud kitchen working together to create recipes, we even made a sign for our café! We have been transporting water from one container to another. We were even making the water change colour by using paper and felt tip pens, after one person showed us how to do this, lots of people wanted to experiment and have a go!

Play
Last week we had a jewellery making area in the classroom, this was very popular all week! We had beads, elastic and wool. We were very creative and made necklaces, bracelets, rings and headbands! Threading the beads was quite tricky and we had to be resilient! It was also good for our fine motor skills.
Some of us were making music during our play, so this week we had some musical instruments in the classroom to make music on! This was great fun but quite noisy!
We have been engaging in lots of other play in the various areas of the classroom. Star Wars drawing and colouring has been popular!

HWB
We have been thinking about the qualities of a good friend and how to be a good and kind friend. Each circle time 2 people have been chosen, 1 at a time, to sit in the middle. Everyone else has to think of a reason why that person is a good friend or give an example of a time they have shown themselves to be a kind friend. Everyone in the circle then shares their idea with their talking partner before sharing it with the circle, all of these ideas are typed up onto a special good friend certificate for us to take home and share with our families!
Spanish
This week we have been learning some Spanish! We have been learning how to say: hello, goodbye, good morning, good afternoon and good night. We have also been learning how to say colours in Spanish!
