Literacy

Before the holiday, we were learning two ways to make the sound ‘igh’. We have been learning ‘igh’ which is usually in the middle of words and ‘-y’ which is usually on the end of words.

This week we have been reinforcing the block 2 sounds, ‘ai, ay, ea, ea, igh, y’. We have been reading and writing words with these sounds in them.

We have also been writing a recount about what we did during the February holiday. We are using our phonics and tricky word knowledge to help us write more independently.

Numeracy

We have been ordering numbers, making shares, looking at and describing dot patterns. Some of us have been learning about number bonds for the numbers 2 to 10.

Spanish

We have been reinforcing the vocabulary for ‘good morning’, ‘good afternoon’, ‘good night’, ‘hello’ and ‘goodbye’. We have also been learning how to ask someone how they are feeling and some simple replies to this question including ‘I’m feeling good’, ‘I’m feeling bad’, ‘I’m not sure’ ‘I’m happy’ and ‘I’m sad’. We are greeting each other in the morning and afternoon in Spanish and saying ‘goodbye’ at the end of the day in Spanish too.

Mud Kitchen

We enjoyed a visit to the Mud Kitchen before the February holiday.

Holyrood Park

We visited Holyrood Park this week with Miss Ritty. We enjoyed mud painting, digging and excavating dinosaur bones! We also played a nearly whole class game of soldiers defending their tree, there were magicians and fighters too.

P.E.

We enjoyed playing with the parachute the week before the holiday. We enjoyed playing the different games and had to listen carefully. This week we have been learning how to leap and how to kick a ball using the inside of our foot. We found both of these things a bit tricky.

Library

We had our first library visit this week. We will visit the school library each Monday. During our visit we will look at the books and have a story read to us by 1 of our P7 class reading ambassadors. We will have the opportunity to borrow 1 library book at a time.

Topic

We have been learning about paramedics, doctors and nurses, dentists, occupational therapists and police officers. We have been lucky enough to have some visitors come into school to tell us about their jobs.

Before the February break, we had a visit from Donna, a paramedic. She brought in lots of things to tell us about and we enjoyed seeing these objects and having a turn at wrapping our partner up in bandage! We also loved seeing the ambulance and got to go inside!

We have had some visitors this week. We have been finding out how doctors, the police and occupational therapists help people and keep people safe. It was great to have some visitors and to find out about their jobs. We enjoyed seeing the different things which they brought with them and enjoyed passing these around and trying on some of these on. We are looking forward to welcoming more visitors next week.
