Literacy

We have been learning more of the block 2 ‘special friend’ sounds. We have been learning ‘oo’ and ‘oi’. We have also been learning the tricky words ‘one’ ‘of’ and ‘were’.

We have enjoyed Helicopter stories with Mrs McLaughlin, telling a story and then acting it out. After having acted out the stories, we reflect on the stories and choose our favourite one. Then we draw a picture of our favourite part and write a sentence about it.

Maths

This week we have started to learn about money. We have been learning the names and values of the 8 British coins and about the British notes. We have been looking at the coins, trying to identify them by size, colour and shape and not just by the number written on them. We have been learning about how people get money and the different ways to pay or items. We have also been counting amounts of money, counting a collection of 1p coins, a collection of 2p coins, a mixed collection of 1p and 2p coins and a mixed collection of 1p, 2p and 5p coins. Next week we will continue to count collections of coins and will be making amounts too, learning about equivalency and different combinations to make the same amount.

P.E.

We have been learning how to dribble a ball with our hands and how to leap from 1 leg to the other. We enjoyed different stations last week to develop these skills and skills from previous lessons. This week we have been developing our skipping skills and dribbling a ball with our feet, it was hard to control the ball!

Spanish

We have been reinforcing the names of the colours in Spanish. We played some games and played bingo. Some of us are very good at recalling the names of the colours in Spanish!

RSHP

We have been learning about our body. We have been learning about the private parts of our bodies, what these are called and what being private means. At the start of the lesson we sang ‘Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes’ then we drew around 1 person from our group before labelling the body parts which we knew. During our second lesson we learned about the parts of our body which are private, what this means and what these parts are called.

Mud Kitchen

We enjoyed a visit to the mud kitchen with some P7s. It was good fun to play with the P7s.

Holyrood Park

We visited Holyrood Park this week. We enjoyed playing imaginatively and rolling down the hill!

We will be visiting Holyrood Park on Tuesday 22nd March with Miss Ritty for outdoor learning.

People Who Help Us

Last week we were learning about engineers and what they do. We enjoyed the challenge of making a bridge out of paper which could hold the weight of a toy car. We worked very hard on this and thought about the different ways to use the paper to construct a bridge.

Visitors

We have enjoyed having the last of our parent visitors come into class. It was great to hear about their jobs and to see the things which they had brought along with them!

Play

We have enjoyed lots of play. We have enjoyed some role play in the shop, buying things with the money and putting our shopping into the baskets and shopping bags. We have been exploring the different sounds various musical instruments make and some of us enjoyed having a dance to the music being made! The marble run and k’nex have also been popular.
