We have been very bust since returning to school after the October holiday. I hope all the Mum’s, Dad’s, carers and family members of the P3 class are keeping well.
Preston Street are delighted to welcome Miss Raewyn Bryant to the school. She is completing a postgraduate diploma in teaching and will be with the P3 class until Christmas. Miss Bryant has settled in really well with the children and has already taught a variety of thought provoking lessons.
In numeracy this term we will be continuing with SEAL approaches to numeracy with Mrs Hunter and Mr Durkin. We will also be looking at 2D and 3D shape, measure, problem solving and gaining understanding of the 2, 5 and 10 times tables.
In literacy we are continuing to gain understanding of sounds/blends and common words using the Nelson Spelling scheme. The children are really enjoying reading their own materials and it’s been great hearing the children discuss and read a variety of school books. We will be continuing to consolidate understanding of nouns, verbs, adjectives and sentence building as well as imaginative writing and developing presentation skills related to the topic, houses and homes around the world.
We will continue to discuss friendship and kindness in health and well being, relating ideas and thoughts to the school’s three Rs of resilience, responsibility and respect. Devising playground games, circuit training and walks around Holyrood park will continue to be our focus in PE.
Spanish will be our language focus this term, looking at numbers, colours and days of the week. In religious and moral education, there will be a focus on looking at beliefs and values around the world. We are looking forward to creating sound stories linked to our topic, drama and investigating different animal habitats as our science focus. Miss Bryant has got some fantastic ideas for craft with the class but this will remain a secret for now…..
Take care everyone,
Mr Durkin, Mrs Hunter and Miss Bryant.
