Here is a brief review of our second week of Home Learning. Please remember that pupils’ learning is hosted on Teams from P4 to P7 (and this will also be the case with the P3 class from next week) – so this weekly ‘catch up’ blog is an opportunity to share pupils’ learning more widely across the school.

Once again, the week was a mixture of live sessions; independent ‘core learning’ assignments in literacy and numeracy; and further optional learning tasks which allow for personalisation and choice.

As one of our weekly optional tasks, our P5-7 pupils participated in a new project designed by the Scottish Chamber Orchestra in conjunction with the Royal Observatory of Edinburgh. The project is based on ‘The Planets’ by Gustav Holst.

Pupils produced artworks based on the various planets which are featured in the piece of music. Here are some below, along with some Scottish Chamber Orchestra videos which explain more about the music:

On ‘Wellbeing Wednesday’ we were greeted by a celebrity visitor… none other than internet sensation Mr Beau Flicks!

Beau put the various pupils and parents through a quick workout. As you can see from the picture below, children of all ages joined in enthusiastically.

Unfortunately Mr Hoyle had to take an important phone call and somehow managed to miss the whole thing! We’ll make sure he joins in next time…

Finally, special congratulations to Freya in P7 who made this fantastic video guide to Craigmillar Castle. I can confirm from my own experience that creating a 3 minute video with this many changes of scene takes a huge amount of time and effort. We have a new Dan Snow in the making!
