Our P6 and P7 pupils have been visiting the grass athletics track at Peffermill Playing Fields during the summer term as part of their PE lessons.
The lessons have provided an opportunity for all our pupils to enjoy the excitement of running on a ‘proper’ marked track with lanes and a finish line. We have developed our sprinting and relay skills through a mixture of training activities and races.
As well as providing a good learning opportunity for all pupils, the sessions will also help our athletics team prepare for Interscholastics, which take place at George Watson’s College on Monday 27th May. Having the chance to train on a grass athletics track similar to the one at Watson’s will make a huge difference in terms of preparing our young people for this prestigious school athletics competition.

During the lessons, we have been joined by Miss Birrell and Mr Fullarton, two students from the University of Edinburgh who are currently training to be PE teachers, along with our fantastic parent helper Mr Ward. We are indebted to all three for providing excellent support during the sessions.
We have certainly enjoyed the full extremes of Scottish weather over the past two weeks. Last week was freezing cold, wet and definitely not a day for taking photographs – however this week our only problem was keeping cool in the blazing sunshine!
