P6 pupils from Preston Street PS and Royal Mile PS got together at the Crags Sports Centre this morning for a basketball festival as part of our joint activity week.
Both schools have been playing basketball during PE this term, so this was a great way for pupils to apply their skills in a competitive context.
The pupils had spent Monday afternoon getting into teams, choosing team names and designing a team logo. This meant we were able to get started straight away when we arrived in the morning.
Each of the eight teams contained a mixture of Preston Street and Royal Mile pupils, with a mixture of boys and girls on each team. Games were played 4 v 4 with substitutes coming on at half time, so everyone played at least half of every game.

The action was split into two groups of four teams, with each team playing three group matches. The first, second, third and fourth placed team in Group A then played a final match against their counterparts from Group B.
After some keenly contested basketball the final standings were as follows:
1st – Pineapple Squad
2nd – Odd Socks
3rd – Rubber Ducks
4th – Seal Squad of Bel Air
5th – Fun Unicorn Nerds (FUN)
6th – Stallions
7th – Legendary Unbeatable Pillows
8th – The Under Dogs
(Needless to say, the team names were created by the children!!)
Thanks to Ms Brunner for bringing her Royal Mile P6 pupils to join us at the Crags, and well done to the pupils from both schools for making it such an enjoyable and sporting competition. It was great to see pupils from the two schools co-operating together and having fun at the same time!
We look forward to meeting up again on Friday for our technology challenge.

Tournament winners, the Pineapple Squad!
