Opening times for Preston Street PS are as follows:

Monday – Thursday

P1-2 9:00am – 2:55

P3-7 8:45am – 3:10pm

 

Friday

P1-2 9:00am – 12:05pm

P3-7 8:45am – 12:20pm

 

Drop off arrangements

In the morning, please note the following arrangements:

P1-2 classes will line up in the playground and be taken into school by a teacher at 9am.

P3-7 pupils may enter the school between 8:40 and 8:45am and make their own way up to class.

If your child arrives late (i.e. after 8:45am for P3-7 and after 9am for P1-2) then they should enter via the school office.

Please note that there is no playground supervision in the mornings. In particular, we ask that older pupils do not play football in the playground before school as this can cause accidents involving parents and younger children. Pupils are given opportunities to play football at breaks and lunches.

If you have a child in P1/P2 and a child in P3-7, we offer morning supervision of your P1/P2 child from 8:45-9am. This allows you to drop all your children off at the same time. Please contact the school office for information.

Collection arrangements

Pupils in P1 and P2 are dismissed at 2:55pm and handed over to a parent / carer. Pupils in P3 and P4 are dismissed at 3:10pm and handed over to a parent / carer.

We will only dismiss your P1-4 child if a parent / carer, or SCOOSH after school club, is there to collect your child. If pickup arrangements change (e.g. a child is going with a friend’s parent) then please contact the school to let us know. If you would like your P1-4 child to go home on their own, or with an older sibling, you must let the school office know.

P5-7 children may go home on their own – you do not have to inform us about this, but please do make sure your child is aware that they are doing so. If there is any doubt then we will call you to check.

Road Safety and Parking

We ask that parents and carers consider active travel (e.g. walking or cycling) or public transport when collecting children.

If you do drop off and collect your child by car, please remember to park in a legal and responsible manner, using either the pay and display bays around our school, or the on-street parking which is available a short distance away. In particular, you must not park or drop pupils off:

• in the bus stop on Dalkeith Road;
• On single yellow lines on Dalkeith Road.

This creates unnecessary congestion and presents a real danger to the safety of children and other road users.
