Our annual Sports Assembly took place on Friday 10th June. At this event, we celebrated pupils’ achievement and participation in sports during 2021-22, and also took the opportunity to thank the many parent volunteers who help to deliver sporting opportunities throughout the year.
We were particularly happy to celebrate the efforts of our former pupils who are now involved with coaching various sports clubs – congratulations to James Gillespie’s High School students Emma and Natasha (basketball), Patrick and Josh (football) and Leyla (running) for giving up their time to help the next generation of Preston Street pupils!
During the assembly, we presented various awards to recognise participation and achievement in sports. The highlight of the awards are our P5-7 Sports Awards. These are presented to two children in P5, P6 and P7 each year who have shown particularly noteworthy effort and achievement in school sports activities. Congratulations to this year’s winners (pictured receiving their awards):

P5 – Rowaida and Martin
P6 – Elysia and Jamie R
P7 – Angus and Bensu
We also announced the overall Sports Day winners – congratulations to Lutton who are this year’s champions!
Huge thanks to all the adults and secondary school pupils who have helped to deliver sporting opportunities this year, and well done to all our pupils who have participated both during the school day and during after-school and weekend activities. For a small school we have always prided ourselves in ‘punching above our weight’ in terms of sporting provision for all pupils and with the lifting of all COVID-related restrictions in spring of this year, we have been delighted to return to the high level of sporting participation which has always been a hallmark of life at Preston Street.
Here is a short video to celebrate some of our successes and achievements this year – it has been edited to include the recent sports day results:
