Hello 6s!

I hope you had a fantastic break and got to enjoy some sunshine. I’ve been trying to get out for a daily walk or run. It’s nice to see the daffodils coming up with all the sunshine.

Walk

We had two birthdays over the break!

Happy Birthday

Maisie, how was your birthday yesterday? I hope it was an amazing day! Happy birthday to Charlotte as well who celebrated her birthday on 15th April.

If you are looking for art, science, drama, or other activities you can complete one of the options on the timetable.

Maths from Miss Craig

We are going to completely finish up with our algebraic reasoning. So, this week I’d like you to review solving equations by completing sections 1 and 2 on page 94 in book 2a:

https://prestonstreetprimary.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/teejay-2a-textbook.pdf

Just as a quick review of solving equations here:

A number added to 5 is 10.                                          x + 5 = 10             x = 5

If I take 7 away from a number, I get 13.                 x – 7 = 13             x = 20

If I multiply a number and 4, I get 36.                       4x = 36                  x = 9

If I divide a number by 6, I get 3.                                x  = 3                      x = 18                                                                                                                          6

The answers are in the back of book 2a.

Next week, I’ll explain how to write equations as words like I did in the review above.

You can continue to send your work to

admin@prestonstreet.edin.sch.uk

We enjoy getting it, and will post some of it on the blog each week.

Literacy from Mrs Smyth

Good morning P6 and welcome back after the holidays, I hope you all managed to relax and have some fun?

I had a lovely relaxing break and got to do some of the things I had wanted to do including; completing some cross stitch, colouring in, reading and knitting. However, I did not manage to learn how to play the ukulele! That’s still on my to do list😊

Today’s Literacy Learning

To ease us back into working from home I decided to give us a task that we have done before, right at the beginning of the school year.

Today I want you to look back over the books you have read since returning to school last August. Choose one that you particularly enjoyed and create a book commercial for it. It must be a different choice from the one you completed for our commercial wall.

This is a task that takes time I’m going to complete one as well on one of the two books I read over the holidays.

Please try and email your work as I would like to collate an upper school reading recommendations page on our website.

Social Studies from Mr Anderson

Good morning P6. I hope you all had a lovely Easter Break with your family in the sunshine. Although we were restricted in what we could do, we still had lots of fun going on local walks, bike rides, playing football and even participating in an Easter Egg hunt which Emily loved. However, my favourite part was receiving my Mars Easter Egg from our Tesco delivery. 😊

Whilst out on one walk, we were told Siegfried and Brighid the swans at Craiglockhart Pond have created a beautiful nest for their expecting cygnets. How exciting!

Social Studies

As it’s our first day back, I would like you to create a phenomenal poster on the year you were born or on the actual day you were born. Your poster can include pictures, drawings and short paragraphs of historical events, sporting achievements, film & music and anything else you can think of.

If you are finding your birth year/day difficult, why not choose another member of your family and create a poster of their birth year/day. Along with the websites provided below, why not ask your family members.

I look forward to seeing all your posters and I will publish them on our school blog this Friday. Therefore, please send in photos of your work no later than midday on Thursday.

Mr. Anderson 😊
